Job Title: Research and Project Engineer II
(Computer & Aerospace Specialist)
(Contractual Position to December 31, 2012)
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Required Education: Thorough experience (5 to 7 years) in the research and development of communications, aerospace or mission critical sub-systems; a university degree in Computer Science and/or Electrical Engineering, supplemented by graduate level course work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience with Linux and other open systems, and application of Mat- lab software in a real-time environment is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills including oral and written communications and the ability to prioritize work are required. Familiarity with Transport Canada Air Regulations (CARS); and qualification as a Model Aircraft Association of Canada (MAAC) instructor would be assets.
Required Skills: Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) of the RAVEN project, the successful applicant will perform professional work in the technical development of the project. Duties include the enhancement of security and reliability of the communications links between the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the ground control station (GCs); customization of the GCS software with enhanced automatic sense and avoid capabilities for small UAV’s; aerospace payload specialist for the integration of sen- sors and communications equipment, and for the design of test procedures for field deployments of small UAVs; train the RA- VEN staff to be pilots for small radio-controlled (RC) aircraft; supervision of the RAVEN staff on the construction and maintenance of RC aircraft to ensure their airworthiness and flight integrity; and performing other related duties as required.
